NAMES IN THE NEWS

          During Friday night's "MLB Players Choice Awards," it
     was announced that the MLBPA Man of the Year Award will be
     renamed the MARVIN MILLER MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD in honor of
     the founder of the Players Union ("MLB PLayers Choice
     Awards," ESPN, 11/3)....In Denver, Jason Blevins noted that
     former Warren Miller Entertainment CEO WARREN MILLER's
     latest movie, "RIDE," will debut in Denver and Boulder, CO,
     theaters this week.  Miller's son KURT "expects to show" his
     90-minute film to more than half a million moviegoers
     (DENVER POST, 11/5)....Colts QB PEYTON MANNING is one of
     five people elected to serve on the NCAA Foundation's 30-
     member BOD, and is the first active athlete selected in its
     12-year history (N.Y. TIMES, 11/5)....In N.Y., Phil Mushnick
     notes that Fox's KEITH OLBERMANN last week "quietly sent"
     $25,000 to the Baseball Assistance Team, which has "served
     indigent ex-baseball folks and/or their families" since '86, 
     BAT national President JOE GARAGIOLA: "That's one of the
     largest donations from an individual we've ever received"
     (N.Y. POST, 11/6)....CBS SportsLine's Len Pasquarelli noted
     Cowboys Owner JERRY JONES showed "incredible generosity"
     after the sudden death of CBS SportsLine Senior Writer STEVE
     SCHOENFELD.  Jones donated his private jet so that Cowboys
     Dir of PR RICH DALRYMPLE and six members of the Dallas media
     could attend Schoenfeld's memorial service on October 27 in
     Phoenix, and Jones "arranged for a Phoenix caterer to
     deliver food for about 200 people to the home of Steve's
     widow, ROBIN SCHOENFELD" (CBS SportsLine, 11/3).
