Dwyane Wade Selected To Debut 25th Anniversary Air Jordan Shoe

Wade (r) To Debut Air Jordan 2010 In February
Nike's Jordan Brand has selected Heat G Dwyane Wade to debut the Air Jordan 2010 when the shoe "makes its long-awaited release" in February to "commemorate the popular line's 25th anniversary," according to Tim Reynolds of the AP. Wade switched to Jordan Brand this July after six years with Converse, and Jordan Brand Dir of PR Terri Hines said that Wade is the "first pitchman for the Air Jordan other than" Basketball HOFer Michael Jordan. Wade said it is a "huge honor" to be hand-picked by Jordan for the role. The shoe will launch nationwide February 13 to coincide with NBA All-Star Weekend in Dallas. It is "unknown if Wade will wear the shoe beforehand," such as in the Heat's Christmas Day game against the Knicks at MSG. The shoe will retail for $170 (AP, 11/11). In Ft. Lauderdale, Sarah Talalay notes the Air Jordan 2010 features a hole in the side, and Jordan Brand said it is the "first see-through performance basketball shoe featuring a unique thermoplastic urethane window.” Jordan said that his brand "had been interested in Wade for years." Talalay notes it is expected Wade will "eventually have his own signature shoe" with Jordan Brand (SUN-SENTINEL.com, 11/12). Wade said to be the “first athlete to wear the Air Jordans 2010 is just an unbelievable honor for me.” Wade: “And I want to make sure that I continue to do the things that I've done to this point and a little bit more to make Michael proud" ("ESPN First Take," ESPN2, 11/12).

EMPIRE STATE OF MIND: ESPN’s Heather Cox reported Cavaliers F LeBron James during last night’s game against the Magic gave a “little shoutout to the Yankees’ 27th world championship” by wearing a pair of Nikes featuring “27” on the top of his right shoe and "New York" on the top of his left shoe. ESPN's Jeff Van Gundy said, "How about the power to just change your sneaker?" ("Cavaliers-Magic," ESPN, 11/11).
