The Players Championship Will Be Free To All
Military Personnel And Families Beginning In '10 |
The Players Championship will be "free to all active-duty and retired military personnel and their families beginning in 2010," according to Garry Smits of the FLORIDA TIMES-UNION. The PGA Tour last year "admitted military for free on Wednesday during the week of The Players, and after 3 p.m. all other days of the week." Beginning next year, the "gates of the TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium Course will [be] thrown open to servicemen and women, and their dependents, all week." The Players Championship Exec Dir Jay Monahan said, "We're always thinking of ways to thank our military for what they do for us, and this is the best way we can think of at The Players to do it." Monahan said that the free tickets will be available at Mayport Naval Station and Naval Air Station Jacksonville "through the Morale, Welfare and Recreational offices." Smits notes the military "also will be admitted free to all events run by the Tour's championship management department." That includes the World Golf Championships played in the United States: the Presidents Cup, The Barclays, the Tour Championship; and the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, Senior Players Championship and Charles Schwab Cup Championship on the Champions Tour (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 11/10).
