NFL FRANCHISE NOTES: GREEN BAY TIRED OF THE PACKERS?

In Green Bay, Chris Havel wrote, "Win or lose, the
Packers always draw, but the relationship that links this
town and its team may be under as much strain now as at any
time in recent history." Havel: "In talking to an array of
Green Bay residents whose lives are intertwined with their
city's NFL team, there was a singular recurring theme:
Beneath the surface there seems to exist an underlying
current of Packers burnout" as "fans are searching to
recapture recent glory" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 11/5).
NEW LOW: Attendance for yesterday's Ravens-Bengals game
was 54,759, marking the "lowest figure of the season" at
65,000-seat Paul Brown Stadium (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 11/6).
LIONS HIT LOW? In Detroit, Drew Sharp writes that
during yesterday's 23-8 loss to the Dolphins, "an already
ugly season turned disgustingly nasty." At one point, a
sold-out Silverdome crowd "derisively cheered" when injured
QB Charlie Batch went down with a concussion. Lions WR
Herman Moore: "That was as sickening a scene as I've ever
been a part of. ... What's with that crap? I saw a side of
our fans that I thought I'd never see. ... It was an all-
around embarrassing day" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 11/6).
