Ryan Moore Signs Marketing, Ownership Deal With Scratch Golf

Moore Will Become Part Owner Of Scratch
Golf; Will Wear Logo On Clothing, Golf Bag
Golfer Ryan Moore "has signed a deal with Scratch Golf in which he will not only use their equipment, but become part owner of the company," according to Jason Sobel of ESPN.com. Moore "takes over an equity ownership role with the company and has various performance incentives built into his contract." In exchange, he will "use irons and wedges from Scratch Golf, while also wearing its logo on his clothing and golf bag." Moore "did not previously have an endorsement deal for anything other than his golf ball and glove." Moore's father, Mike, said Ryan "really liked the vision and thought (Scratch Golf) was onto something that would be a good fit for him." Moore is currently 30th on the PGA Tour money list, and Scratch Golf President & CEO Ari Techner said, "He feels we give him the best opportunity to succeed and we feel that he will help us get our name out there. ... We want to get our name out there. We don't do any traditional advertising. I'm not sure there's anyone else on tour we would have considered. It's really a win-win for everybody." Techner said that terms of the deal "have yet to be finalized, but that Moore will have an 'active' role with the company" (ESPN.com, 11/5).

ON THE FIRST TEE: In Tacoma, Todd Milles reports the contract "was finalized Thursday prior to Moore teeing off" in the WGC-HSBC Champions event in Shanghai. Moore is the "first PGA Tour player to sign with Scratch Golf," which originated in Eugene, Oregon, in '03 and is now based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Mike Moore said that the family "flew to the company's headquarters a month ago, and spent a day testing the product." Ryan Moore has "used Ping irons pretty much his entire life." Moore signed a deal with Ping in '05, but that contract expired prior to this season (Tacoma NEWS TRIBUNE, 11/6).
