ICE MACHINES: Comcast SportsNet (CSN) Chicago averaged a 1.6 local rating for Blackhawks telecasts in October, up 60% over a 1.0 in October '08 (CSN)....CSN Philadelphia has averaged a 2.5 local rating through eight Flyers telecasts this season, up 25% from a 2.0 rating for the same period last year (CSN)....FSN Pittsburgh averaged an 8.97 local rating for 13 Penguins game telecasts in October. Nine of the 13 games ranked among the network's top 20 highest-rated regular-season Penguins games, and five ranked in the top 10 (FSN Pittsburgh)....The CBC drew 2.45 million viewers for Saturday's Maple Leafs-Canadiens "Hockey Night in Canada" coverage (THESTAR.com, 11/3).
HOOPS HYPE: The Lakers-Thunder game on FS Oklahoma on Tuesday earned a 3.9 local rating, the net's best Thunder rating ever. Last season's high was a 2.8 rating for a game against the Celtics on November 5 (DAILY OKLAHOMAN, 11/6)....CSN Mid-Atlantic averaged a 2.5 local rating in DC through the first four Wizards games on the network, up 93% over the same period last year. Each of the first four games have drawn at least a 1.6 rating, while none of the first four last year rated that high (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 11/5)....The Bucks' season-opener last Friday against the 76ers earned a 3.8 local rating (34,268 HHs) on FS Wisconsin. The Pistons-Bucks home-opener the following night earned a 1.9 rating (17,134 HHs) (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 11/6).
NOTES: KTVI-Fox in St. Louis drew a 17.8 local Nielsen rating for the Rams-Lions game last Sunday, a higher rating in the market than any of the World Series telecasts or any '09 regular-season MLB Cardinals games (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 11/6)....KDFW-Fox last Sunday earned a 28.6 local rating in Dallas-Ft. Worth for Seahawks-Cowboys, a 22.4 local rating for Vikings-Packers and an 11.2 for Yankees-Phillies Game Four (DALLASNEWS.com, 11/2). Rogers Sportsnet drew 840,000 viewers for Sunday's Yankees-Phillies World Series Game Four (THESTAR.com, 11/3).
