NO ROOM AT THE INN FOR LOCAL ABC AFFIL AT FEDEX FIELD

Because Washington, DC's WJLA-ABC is not a TV partner
of the Redskins, the affil will no longer be allowed to set
up live reports from inside Redskins Park, according to
Leonard Shapiro of the WASHINGTON POST. WJLA sports anchor
Rene Knott was told by the team that he must do his live
reports at for the evening news from the stadium parking
lot. WJLA News Dir Steve Hammel: "They told us the reason
is that we're not a financial partner with them. They
believe, accurately, that it's their facility and they can
do what they like." Redskins TV partners (WRC, WTTG and
WUSA) are allowed to do reports from inside locations within
FedEx Field, but not all of them "ask" to. Redskins Senior
VP/PR Karl Swanson said of the team's restriction of WJLA:
"This is not a TV studio. We don't have space for that sort
of thing. The only people using space here are ABC, Fox,
and ESPN because they have national contracts. [WRC] and
[WUSA] have it written in their contracts they can set up
inside." Meanwhile, sources told Shapiro that ABC Sports
has "not been enamored with their treatment" by the Redskins
during two "MNF" games at FedEx Field. Shapiro: "Maybe
that's the reason 'MNF' did not show a single close-up of
[Redskins Owner] Daniel Snyder in his owner's box during the
Titans game and also put up a graphic showing that it cost a
family of four $396 to attend a Redskins game, compared with
$227 in Pittsburgh" (WASHINGTON POST, 11/4).
