Former USTA Exec Kantarian Turns Down LPGA Commissioner Role

Kantarian Says No As LPGA
Continues Search For New Boss

Arlen Kantarian has rejected an offer to serve as the next commissioner of the LPGA, according to sources close to the search process. Kantarian, who served as Chief Exec of Professional Tennis for the USTA from '00-08, is a Senior Advisor to Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross. Kantarian could not be reached for comment. The LPGA, with the aid of executive search firm Spencer Stuart and Joie Gregor -- an LPGA advisor and executive recruiter who helped hire former Commissioner Carolyn Bivens -- is entering its 15th week in its efforts to select a new commissioner. Sources close to the search said candidates still in the mix include USGA Chief Business Officer Pete Bevacqua, WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack and Kohlberg & Co. Senior Adviser Jon Ward. Sources added with Kantarian turning down the job, a selection is likely to come soon. Search committee Chair Leslie Greis initially informed LPGA members that she hoped to have a final decision in late September or early October.
