Details Emerge Of Second Offer To Buy Warriors From Cohan

Warriors, NBA Deny
Team Is For Sale
While the bid of Oracle CEO Larry Ellison for the Warriors "has been out there," details have emerged of "another intriguing offer to buy the Warriors," according to sources cited by Adrian Wojnarowski of YAHOO SPORTS. There is a "well-moneyed and politically connected Bay Area group that has approached" Warriors Owner Chris Cohan "about purchasing the team and building a privately funded arena in downtown" S.F. The group reportedly "has already had third parties call several well-respected NBA front-office executives about running the team." Meanwhile, sources said that Ellison "knows what the Warriors are worth in his mind and he isn't inclined to raise the offer Cohan has already rejected." While the Warriors and the NBA "deny the team is for sale," Wojnarowski wrote Cohan "should stop sputtering with overtures to sell the Warriors and do everyone a favor: Sell now." Wojnarowski: "For everyone’s sake, the sooner, the better. The Warriors are endemic of a bigger problem in the NBA: bad ownership draining good markets." Wojnarowski added of Cohan, "The worst owner in the NBA is seldom seen or heard, preferring to let a slobbering run of incompetence shape the face of his legacy. From front-office folly to combustible stars, Cohan has lorded over one embarrassing episode after another in his 15-year Donald Sterling-esque run as majority owner" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 10/12).

CONSIDERING HIS OPTIONS: In S.F., Ray Ratto writes, "Are there people who would love to buy the team and move it, maybe to San Jose, maybe to San Francisco? Yes, and there have been -- but Cohan isn't what real-estate people call a motivated seller." The rumors of an "imminent sale are false, even though the team has been run not just into the ground but through the earth's mantle." Ratto: "You can't make Chris Cohan feel bad about himself, let alone the job he has done, no matter what you do or how many purchase scenarios might exist. ... He'll go when someone either overwhelms him with more money than the team ever can be worth, or if the IRS says he's looking at incipient poverty" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 10/13).
