Grizzlies Help Memphis Motorsports Park Promote Upcoming Race

At a time when sports and entertainment entities are "seeking ways to survive in a tough economy," Memphis Motorsports Park (MMP) and Grizzlies officials "think it's beneficial to work together," according to Marlon Morgan of the Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL. Looking for a "way to help bolster" the October 24 NASCAR Nationwide Series Kroger On Track for the Cure 250, MMP officials "reached out to the Grizzlies." The team yesterday "dished out an assist," allowing drivers Kelly Bires and Erik Darnell and media members to "play a game of N-A-S-C-A-R, the equivalent of H-O-R-S-E, at the team's practice facility at FedExForum." MMP VP & GM Jason Rittenberry: "If we can bring NASCAR drivers and the media to the Forum, that's just a benefit for both of us. Hopefully, in return they can bring some basketball players to the track one day." Grizzlies President of Business Operations Greg Campbell said that he "sees MMP as a potential partner, not a competitor." Campbell: "We're both in the entertainment business and as long as we're not stepping over each other, we're more than happy to work with their marketing people and let them work with our marketing people and see what we can do to make a better experience for the fan in Memphis." MMP Advertising & Promotions Manager Holly Ford said that "one way to overcome tough times is to align with key partners." Ford: "When you're talking about tough economic times, you just find different ways to work around it" (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 10/13).
