Dolphins Scuttle Potential Florida Lottery Deal
That Included Jaguars And Buccaneers |
The Dolphins "scuttled a potential three-team" Florida Lottery deal with the Buccaneers and Jaguars "before the start of the season because the Dolphins felt they deserved more than the other two clubs in the deal," according to NFL sources cited by Kaplan & Lefton of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Sources said that Dolphins CEO Mike Dee made the decision to "kill the three-team lottery play," and whether this development "could provide further fodder for discontent between low- and high-revenue clubs is unclear." Kaplan & Lefton note the NFL "opened the lottery category for the first time earlier this year, but the issue of how teams in the same state would handle that opportunity was left to the local clubs." 49ers COO Andy Dolich said that the 49ers, Chargers and Raiders are "talking jointly with the state lottery about a scratch-and-win card for 2010," but added that the teams are still discussing "whether that card would have all three team logos, or whether each team would get its own card." The NFL indicated that 18 of 32 teams have signed lottery deals (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 10/12 issue).
