Green Bay Stadium District Eyes Non-Football Events At Lambeau

Packers Receive Income From All Concessions,
Use Of Club Seats At Lambeau Field |
The Green Bay/Brown County Professional Football Stadium District "will continue to press for non-football events at Lambeau Field, but faces some significant hurdles beyond Green Bay Packers reticence over use of the field," according to Richard Ryman of the GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE. Under terms of its lease with the city, the Packers receive income from "all concessions in the stadium and from use of club seats." Stadium District Exec Dir Patrick Webb: "That is a huge detriment of (a promoter's) ability to put on an event." Webb added that concerts or other events "remain a risky financial proposition in the current economic climate." Ryman notes Webb made a presentation to the Green Bay City Council advisory committee on August 31 and "came away with a sense the council believes it is the district's responsibility to secure alternate events." The stadium district and the city of Green Bay own Lambeau Field, which is leased by the Packers. The Sigma Group Project Engineer Mike Brockman, whose company serves as the board's stadium-maintenance consultant, noted that the Packers are "taking good care of the stadium." Meanwhile, Webb indicated that sales-tax distributions for the year are 6% "less than at the same time in 2008." Webb "continues to believe the district can pay off the last" of the $33M in debt it still owes on Lambeau renovations "in two years, and retire the tax in 2014" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 10/1).
