Undergoing Tests At Mayo Clinic This Week
In N.Y., Judy Battista reported Redskins Owner DANIEL SNYDER's wife, TANYA, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, is now "talking about her illness for the first time, becoming the delicate face of the NFL's effort during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with help from" Cardinals WR LARRY FITZGERALD. During games Sunday and "on other dates in October, players will wear hot-pink gloves, wristbands and cleats, and goal-post legs will be wrapped in hot-pink padding." Each fan also will "receive a pink-and-white rally towel and will be inundated with the message that screenings for women over 40 are crucial." Tanya is "guarded ... about the details of her treatment, except to say that she had two operations for early stage breast cancer a year apart." Dan had "thyroid cancer in 2001," and the couple this week is undergoing a "day of tests at the Mayo Clinic" (N.Y. TIMES, 9/26).

FAMILY AFFAIR: In Dallas, Todd Archer writes while Cowboys Owner JERRY JONES is the "leader of the franchise," he is "not sure he would have thought about leaving Texas Stadium" if not for his wife, GENE, and his children, Cowboys Exec VP & COO STEPHEN JONES, Exec VP/Brand Management and President of Charities CHARLOTTE JONES ANDERSON and VP & Chief Sales & Marketing Officer JERRY JONES JR. Before Jones purchased the Cowboys in '89, he "made sure his children were ready to go all in with him," and they now are "integral parts of the highest-valued franchise in American sports." Jones Jr.: "Anybody that's fortunate to be in a family business knows that there are positives and negatives in all aspects of any industry. There are tough days. Dad's the first one to say, 'Don't let me be too overbearing because I can.' There can be days like that, but the good news is we all are committed to it for the long term" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 9/28).
