Dome Sweet Dome: Vikings Working To Personalize Metrodome

Two Sponsors Sign Deals With Vikings For
Metrodome Gate Signage
The Vikings are "personalizing the Metrodome" now that the Univ. of Minnesota (UM) football team has moved to TCF Bank Stadium and the Twins are moving into Target Field next season, according to Sean Jensen of the ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS. Vikings CFO and VP/Sales & Marketing Steve LaCroix "insisted that efforts to personalize the Metrodome are short-term solutions" as the team seeks to build a new stadium, but the Vikings "will be aggressive in making it look more like their home." LaCroix: "Our goal is to create the Vikings brand and feel at the Metrodome." Much of the stadium is "painted blue and red, the Twins' colors, including the seats," but LaCroix said to "switch out the seats is a pretty substantial investment" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 9/26). In Minneapolis, Judd Zulgad reported the Vikings have reached deals with Caribou Coffee and the Minnesota Army National Guard that "will give both gate signage at the Metrodome this season." Caribou "will have a 2,000-square foot sign outside of Gate F and the National Guard will have one outside Gate H." With the Twins leaving the facility next season and UM already gone, the Vikings are "being allowed to attempt to generate more revenue by selling naming rights to gates and the field" (Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE, 9/26). LaCroix: "We're working hard on how we make this truly look and feel like the Vikings home stadium. It's a temporary solution as we hopefully transition into a new stadium in the near future." More LaCroix: "It starts with gate opportunities. ... We have more flexibility as a sole tenant. It doesn't change the width of concourses or amenities other stadiums have. But it will make it feel like more of a Vikings facility than a neutral facility." Meanwhile, LaCroix said HD, the Red Zone channel and fantasy football "have helped the NFL fan base grow, but it has fans wanting to know what's going on with more than just the home team." LaCroix: "We've addressed that with some in-stadium stats and league scores that are more fantasy-related so fans in-stadium can keep up with what's going on around the league" (Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE, 9/27).
