French Open Reportedly Considering Move To Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Resort In Paris Could
Eventually Play Host To French Open |
The French Open "could be on the move from its current home" at Roland Garros to Disneyland Resort Paris, according to Johnny Summerton of AGORAVOX. French Open Tournament Dir Gilbert Ysern in a recent interview with French sports newspaper L'Equipe "downplayed the rumours of a move although he admitted that negotiations to expand the current site and build a new stadium close to the existing venue weren't without their difficulties." Ysern said the possibility of a move to Disneyland "cannot be ruled out but as yet no negotiations have been started." Summerton notes a "move of some sort has been the subject of discussion for some time especially as the tournament expands and the space available at its current location is limited." Redevelopment and extension plans for Roland Garros, which has hosted the tournament since '28, have "apparently been agreed" upon, but for French Tennis Federation President Jean Gachassin, the plans are "simply unlikely to be enough in the long term" (AGORAVOX.com, 9/23).
