Visa Reaches Five-Year Extension Of NFL Sponsorship Through '14

Visa today announced that it has reached a five-year extension on its NFL sponsorship through the '14 season. Visa, an NFL sponsor since '95, will remain the exclusive payment service for the league and all NFL events for the duration of the deal, and also will serve as a top-tier sponsor of the NFL Draft and NFL Kickoff. Visa in the coming weeks will unveil an NFL-themed national TV ad campaign in addition to print and online activation. Terms of the deal were not disclosed (Visa). Visa CMO Antonio Lucio said of the NFL, "It is the No. 1 sport in the country when it comes to viewing. It is a very well-managed institution of people that understand the needs of sponsors. When you add on top of that everything that has to do with increases in audiences during tough economic times, it is a property that actually fits very well with our strategic priorities" (REUTERS, 9/22). SportsBusiness Journal reported last week that Visa was nearing a renewal of its deal, which sources indicated currently costs around $8M per year.
