NFL Franchise Notes: Jaguars Expect TV Blackouts For Every Game

Lack Of Ticket Sales Causes
TV Blackouts For Jaguars
The Jaguars Thursday announced that all 10 home games this season at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, starting with Saturday's preseason contest against the Buccaneers, "will be blacked out on TV because of a lack of ticket sales." This marks the first time in the Jaguars' 15-year history that they have blacked out every game. Jaguars DE Reggie Hayward said, "You've got to understand what the economy is and how it's difficult for people to get out and spend that extra money on football and things of leisure" (FLORIA TIMES-UNION, 8/21). Meanwhile, the Jacksonville City Council Thursday voted to "stop paying for tickets to fill two city hall suites during Jaguars games," a move that would save $43,000. Since the Jaguars began play in '95, the Mayor's office and City Council have "split an allocation of 48 tickets and eight skybox passes for each home game" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 8/21).

BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER: The AP's Dan Gelston reported the Eagles' addition of QB Michael Vick has "not jeopardized the team's corporate support." Eagles VP/Sales & Service Marlyse Fant said that as of Wednesday, "none of the more than four dozen Eagles sponsors had pulled out." The Eagles last Friday, a day after signing Vick, heard from 15-20 sponsors, "most simply wishing they had been given advance notice." The Eagles sent a letter to their "top customers last week asking them to have faith that the team was not acting recklessly" (AP, 8/20).

WAY TO SAVE: In Houston, John McClain reports the Texans this season will be offering "special concessions and merchandise" deals in a "nod to the economy." For all home games at Reliant Stadium "bottled water will be available for $2, coffee for $2.50 and beer for $5." The team also will offer special $10 combo meals (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 8/21).
