Mickelson's Investment Group Has Dropped Its
Bid to Acquire Waffle House Franchisee
GS Acquisitions LLC, an investment group that includes golfer PHIL MICKELSON and his agent STEVE LOY has "dropped its bid" to acquire Waffle House franchisee SouthEast Waffles. The group had offered $20.2M for the franchisee's assets, but Waffle House "objected to the plan" and creditors last week told GS that they "would not be supporting" the bid (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 8/19).

HONORS & AWARDS: Little League Int'l has inducted Vice President JOE BIDEN into the Little League Museum Hall of Excellence. It is not known if Biden will attend the enshrinement at this year's Little League Baseball World Series (Little League)....Nova Scotia Premier DARRELL DEXTER yesterday presented Penguins C SIDNEY CROSBY with the Order of Nova Scotia (FACEOFF.com, 8/18)....The U.S. Tennis Writers' Association has honored N.Y. NAMES: Anschutz Corp. has filed suit against "three major bond-rating companies and two investment banks over” $59M in losses from auction-rate securities underwritten, rated and sold by the companies. The company claims that the banks “deceived investors about the risks of the securities and the ratings services erroneously promoted the products as safe by giving them high credit ratings” (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 8/19)....The NFL and Showtime are partnering to produce a five-part documentary, "FULL COLOR FOOTBALL: THE HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE," set to premiere on September 16. IN MEMORY: Red Sox VP Emeritus JOSEPH MCDERMOTT died Sunday after a nine-year battle with prostate cancer at the age of 66. The Red Sox will create the Joseph F. McDermott Excellence in Service Award in his honor, to be given "at the end of each season to the most outstanding day-of-game employee." McDermott joined the team in '75, and under his direction, the Red Sox "began a special crowd-control supervisor program and expanded in-game customer relations functions." Red Sox President & CEO LARRY LUCCHINO said, "He was our Iron Man and an unforgettable, indispensable part of the Fenway Park family" (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/19).
