New Era Marketer John DeWaal Leaves As Part Of Restructuring

JOHN DEWAAL has left the company as part of a restructuring of its marketing department that was undertaken this summer. DeWaal, who spent 15 years at New Era, plans to do some brand marketing consulting and work with an online sports start-up company. During his career at New Era, DeWaal helped develop the company's marketing strategy and played a role in the development of New Era's flag logo, inside taping and visor sticker. He also worked on early product placement initiatives with entertainers like director SPIKE LEE and musician FRED DURST. Under his direction, the marketing department evolved from a handful of people to a staff of more than 20. DeWaal said, "It was a great 15-year run. In the end, it was a mutual decision that the purpose of me being there wasn't as great."
