Sources Say Mayo Has Parted Ways
With Financial Advisory Firm |
Grizzlies G O.J. MAYO, who split with CAA Sports and LRMR Marketing earlier this week, is expected to sign a representation agreement with little-known NBA player agent LAPOE “SMITTY” SMITH, JR., according to multiple sources. Additionally, sources said Mayo has parted ways with his financial advisory firm, S.F.-based True Capital Management. Principals of True Capital did not return phone calls for comment. A person who answered the phone at Smith’s San Antonio-based L Smith & Associates said, “We are not interested in doing any interviews.” Meanwhile, a number of prominent, veteran NBA agents said they had not been contacted and were not aware of any organized agent selection process by Mayo to replace CAA, which repped him for contract work, or LRMR, which repped him for marketing. Under NBPA rules, there is a 15-day cooling-off period before a player can sign with a new agent.
