The NFL Giants yesterday announced that they have partnered with the New Jersey State Lottery to create a "Giants Football Fantasy" instant game, "two days after lottery officials announced a similar game featuring the Jets." Tickets will be available in September, to coincide with the start of the NFL season, and will offer cash prizes ranging from $5 to $100,000, along with other team-themed prizes (AP, 8/12). The Giants previously announced a partnership with the Connecticut State Lottery (THE DAILY).

INSURANCE PREMIUM: In Virginia, Dustin Long noted NASCAR driver Mike Wallace in his suit against Germain Racing alleges that the team "took the sponsor, Geico, which Wallace brought with him to run with in the Nationwide Series" when he joined the team in '08. Court documents show Geico paid Wallace $6M annually, $4.7M of which Wallace paid to Germain. After Wallace paid another $600,000 to an "agent that put together the deal," he was left with $700,000, which combined with his on-track earnings gave him about $1.3M last season, when he finished eighth in the Nationwide Series standings (ROANOKE TIMES, 8/12).

WEAVING A WEB: In Portland, Laura Oppenheimer reports Columbia Sportswear this week "debuted its Web makeover -- including online shopping" -- at Columbia.com. Columbia Senior Dir of E-Commerce Paul Zaengle said that while the company "didn't set a specific goal for online sales," it will "track progress as customers begin to use the new site." Oppenheimer notes the launch was "two years in the making -- one year to research and plan, another to photograph Columbia products, design the site and build it" (Portland OREGONIAN, 8/13).

THE SMELL OF SUCCESS: Pennsylvania-based Masik Collegiate Fragrances this fall is releasing a new line of colognes based on the smell of several colleges, including North Carolina, Penn State and LSU. ESPN's Tony Kornheiser, a graduate of Binghamton Univ., said, "I don't really know what Penn State smells like. I know what Binghamton smells like" ("PTI," ESPN, 8/12).
