Attending Game Against BU At Fenway |
Boston Univ. and Boston College will play an outdoor hockey game at Fenway Park on January 8, one week after the Bruins and Flyers face off in the NHL Winter Classic at the ballpark, according to sources cited by John Connolly of the BOSTON HERALD. An official announcement for the BU-BC game is “expected a week from today, involving officials from both schools, Hockey East and the Fenway Sports Group.” The game is expected to be “announced as a doubleheader," with the women’s teams from Northeastern Univ. and the Univ. of New Hampshire kicking things off, followed by BU-BC at 8:00pm ET. BC coach Jerry York: “I think it’ll be a lot of fun. I think ticket prices will be really good. I envision 25,000 people, maybe.” Meanwhile, Connolly notes the city of Boston has been “looking to open up the constructed temporary rink at Fenway to public skating, and this extra week of ice time between games should certainly serve that purpose” (BOSTON HERALD, 8/13). YAHOO SPORTS’ Sean Leahy notes the BU-BC game at Fenway will be the second of three meetings between the schools this season, with BC “deemed the home side.” The game will be the third outdoor contest in NCAA hockey history. Michigan-Michigan State drew 74,544 at Spartan Stadium in ’01, and Ohio State-Wisconsin drew 40,890 fans to Lambeau Field in ’06. Michigan-Wisconsin will play at Camp Randall Stadium in February (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 8/13).
