Marketplace Roundup

AD WEEK’s John Consoli reports 12 “major advertisers" are sponsoring today's telecast on both Telemundo and Mun2 of the U.S.-Mexico World Cup qualifying match -- Allstate, Anheuser-Busch, Coca-Cola, Corona, GM, The Home Depot, McDonald’s, T-Mobile, Toyota, AT&T, Ford and Unilever’s Degree for Men. Ford is also sponsoring a “live Mun2 feed via JumboTron screens that will show the game from the Hollywood and Highland complex” in L.A. and from the NBC Universal screen in Times Square. Part of the sponsorship package is a “360 component that will include broadband opportunities that will include in-game advertiser logo features, cross promotional segments, sponsorship of rosters and exclusive videos and sports briefs in conjunction with the game” (ADWEEK.com, 8/12).

Wyndham Tournament Dir Will Likely Talk
About Title Sponsorship Extension After Event
EXTENDING THEIR STAY: PGA Tour Wyndham Championship Tournament Dir Mark Brazil said that he will likely talk with Wyndham officials "some time after this year's tournament concludes Aug. 23 to discuss the company's two-year sponsorship renewal option and perhaps a longer extension." Brazil: "Our support for Wyndham has remained strong. We're thrilled with our relationship." Wyndham Worldwide VP/Sports Marketing Kevin Rinker said that the company is "thrilled at the tournament's progress since its first sponsorship year in 2007." This year's event is "on the verge this week of selling out" its luxury suites and skyboxes to corporate partners, which only one other Tour event, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, has "been able to do" (BUSINESS JOURNAL OF THE GREATER TRIAD AREA, 8/7 issue).

BLIND APPROACH: In Baltimore, Mike Klingaman noted Constellation Energy Group (CEG) "remains committed to sponsoring" the Champions Tour Senior Players Championship at Baltimore Country Club in October. But CEG Exec Dir of Marketing & Community Outreach Stacey Ullrich acknowledged that the "recession has raised concerns about its involvement beyond 2011." Ullrich: "This would not be something that we'd take on if there was no contract in place, but we will uphold our (five-year) commitment" (Baltimore SUN, 8/11).

COME DRIVE WITH ME: AirTran Airways is teaming with IRL driver Danica Patrick and the Indy Racing Experience to give seven winners a ride at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Fans can register at AirTran's official Web site until September 1 using their AirTran Airways A+ Rewards frequent flyer number. Winners will be chosen on September 8. AirTran has sponsored Patrick's Andretti Green Racing team since ’05 (THE DAILY).
