Hornets Using New Ticket Plans To Match Last Year's Record Sales

Hornets On Pace To Have 10,000 Full-Package
Season-Ticket Base For '09-10
The Hornets, "coming off a record-setting season for ticket sales," are "poised to make a run at another big number," according to Jimmy Smith of the New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE. The team last season sold "nearly 11,000" ticket plans, including "more than 5,300 full-season packages." The club yesterday unveiled new partial season-ticket packages, and Hornets VP/Ticket Sales & Service Bill Bailey said, "We've given them options for purchasing the plans they want. Not everybody -- from a time or a financial commitment -- can afford a season ticket. This year we're offering three different 12-game packages. In the past, we've offered 10- and 15-game plans. Most of our customers have responded that 12 is the right number." The team also is giving fans an "opportunity to buy two potential half-season tickets that feature" either a game against the Cavaliers or the Lakers. Bailey added, "We're very much on pace to have 10,000 full-package bases, which is the number every NBA team strives for. We're still in the top 10 in renewals and still in the top 10 in the NBA in new full seasons sold" (New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE, 8/11).

THUNDER ROAD: NBA Turnstile counts collected by CBSSports.com show the Thunder last season finished 16th out of the NBA's 30 teams with 14,415 fans per game in "actual attendance" at Ford Center, despite finishing third in season tickets sold and 11th in overall attendance (18,704). But in Oklahoma City, Mike Baldwin noted the Thunder "should improve" on actual attendance this season, with 22 weekend home games "compared to 16 last season." Thunder VP/Ticket Sales & Services Brian Byrnes: "We feel the combination of more weekend games, and a second season of experience with the frequency of games, should mean better use of tickets by season ticket members" (DAILY OKLAHOMAN, 8/10).
