Turnstile Tracker: SuperLiga Attendance Down From Previous Years
The SuperLiga soccer tournament, which features eight clubs from the Mexican Primera Division and MLS, averaged 9,514 fans in '09, down 27% from last year and down 42% from the tournament's first year in '07. This season's iteration featured three doubleheaders, including the semifinal matches, whereas in previous years all games were single-headers. Last night's championship match featuring Tigres UANL and the MLS Fire drew a sellout crowd of 20,000 at Toyota Park, which was up 116% from the all-MLS Dynamo-Revolution final last year at Gillette Stadium, and up 60% from the CF Pachuca-Galaxy final at The Home Depot Center in '07. CD Guadalajara, which had played in the three highest-attended SuperLiga games during the first two years, did not participate in this year's event. Below is a trend for SuperLiga total and average attendance, as well as match-by-match attendance for this year's event (THE DAILY).
