ESPN Rise Using Webisodes, Online Games To Promote Elite 11

ESPN Rise Targeting Male High School
Athletes With Elite 11 Webisodes, Videogames
ESPN Rise, which "caters to high school athletes," is "using Webisodes and online videogames to promote its Elite 11 quarterback competition," according to Jane Levere of the N.Y. TIMES. The '09 Elite 11 was held last month, featuring 12 high school QBs, and ESPN Rise Senior VP James Brown said the new Webisodes and videogames created for this year's competition and a one-hour TV program devoted to it that will be broadcast on ESPNU on August 27 "represent the first time ESPN Rise has taken one of its events and created such a comprehensive program." Brown said that the "target audience for the Elite 11 promotion ... is male high school athletes age 14 to 18." Levere noted the five Elite 11 Webisodes, to be "posted individually on Elite11.com from August 6 through August 20," will feature the "regional competitions that led up to the final and players who tried out for it." ESPN Rise analyst Yogi Roth and Lifestyle Editor Jay Corbin will host the Webisodes. Meanwhile, ESPN Arcade and N.Y.-based developer Arkadium "created three Elite 11 online videogames" that will be "introduced individually on Elite11.com" from August 6-20. Game players "will be able to create their own virtual quarterback, who participates in a different drill in each game." Levere noted the Elite 11 competition also has a Facebook page and Twitter feed (NYTIMES.com, 8/3).
