Cowboys Stadium May Be Permanent Site For Big 12 Title Game

Big 12 To Monitor Title Games At Cowboys
Stadium Before Committing Full-Time
Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe Tuesday said that the league might consider making Cowboys Stadium the "permanent host site for the Big 12 football championship game," according to Kyle Ringo of the Boulder DAILY CAMERA. Beebe said that any decision about a permanent location for the championship game "would be made by a vote of the league's board of directors and would come only after the conference experiences this season's championship game" in the stadium.  Cowboys Stadium will also host the championship game next season, and Beebe said that he "can see positives to permanently locating the game in the new stadium and in continuing to move it from year to year." The championship game in recent years has been played in K.C., Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and St. Louis. Beebe indicated that if the game was "permanently located in a southern city such as Dallas, the basketball championship could be permanently placed in a northern city such as Kansas City, where they have been contested in multiple years." The Big 12 "plans to make 80,000 tickets available" for the games at Cowboys Stadium. Beebe noted that the Big 12 will have "control over the price of tickets and parking to its games but the Cowboys will also be involved in the discussion" (Boulder DAILY CAMERA, 7/29). In Dallas, Hairopoulos & Carlton note the Big 12 BOD has "so far declined to make more than a two-year commitment" to playing the championship game at Cowboys Stadium (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 7/30).
