Developers Unveil Drawings Of Philly Live Entertainment Center

$100M Philly Live Project Being Developed
Jointly By Cordish, Comcast-Spectacor
Baltimore-based developer Cordish Co. yesterday released drawings for Philly Live, a $100M "entertainment center that would provide easier connections among Wachovia Center, Citizens Bank Park, and Lincoln Financial Field," according to PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER architecture critic Inga Saffron. The project is being developed jointly by Cordish and Comcast-Spectacor, and yesterday marked the "first time they have gone public with a detailed site plan and renderings." The renderings, "modeled on such destinations as Boston's Quincy Market and Baltimore's Power Plant Live," depict a "two-block-long, diagonal street lined with restaurants, bars, and shops." Cordish also is "trying to snare a 'boutique hotel' for a spot" near the ballpark, and Cordish VP Gary Block "promised yesterday that the retailers would be an interesting mix." Block: "No Gaps or Old Navy." Saffron notes the "partly enclosed street linking the sports venues would displace" the Wachovia Spectrum, which is "scheduled for demolition early next year." Block said that the company hopes to "start construction of the 350,000-square-foot entertainment center by this time next summer." Philly Live "in many respects ... follows the formula Cordish pioneered at its previous entertainment centers" in Baltimore, Louisville and K.C. (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 7/22).
