Jazz Ticket Revenue Down 9% From '08 As Season-Ticket Base Falls

Jazz Earned $32.5M In Ticket Revenue
This Offseason, Down 9% From '08
The Jazz this offseason have earned $32.5M in ticket revenue, down about 9% compared with $35.7M for '08, according to an NBA memo cited by the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. The drop is "no surprise for a team coming off a disappointing season in a down economy." Through the first week of July, the Jazz ranked 10th in the NBA in season-ticket renewals at 76.4%, which is "better than the league average" of 71.1%, but down from the 91.6% renewal rate the "Jazz enjoyed through the same period" last offseason. The Jazz had 10,713 renewals, down from 13,120 in '08, with 533 "new season-ticket packages sold compared with 744" last year. The Jazz currently have a season-ticket base of 11,246 at the 19,911-seat EnergySolutions Arena, down almost 19% from last year's base of 13,864 (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 7/17).

HIGH FIVE: In Milwaukee, Don Walker cited sources as saying that "as many as five" NBA teams "either have a for-sign sale up, or are giving it serious consideration." One source said, "There's a bunch of teams in play." In addition to the Bobcats, the "other teams that were mentioned include" the Grizzlies, Warriors, Nets and Pacers. Bucks Owner Herb Kohl said that he has "no plans to sell his team." A source noted that with "changes ahead in capital gains taxes, this might be a good time to sell a team before those taxes get even higher" (JSONLINE.com, 7/16).
