Power Feels Patrick Attracts
Attention, Sponsors To Series
The GLOBE & MAIL's Jeff Pappone reports IRL driver Will Power believes "being on the outer edges of [Danica] Patrick's shining star helps other drivers" find sponsorships. Power said of Patrick, "She's a good thing because she attracts attention and sponsors to the series. And she's the real deal. She's a very good driver and does get lots of spotlight, but rightly so. It helps the series out having someone like Danica there and we can use as much as we can in getting sponsors." Pappone writes while "attracting sponsors may be easier when you're not one of the guys, Power's predicament is a sign of the times." Power will race in this weekend's Honda Indy Toronto in a car sponsored by Penske Truck Rental as part of a five-race deal after Aussie Vineyards "pulled out at the end of 2008" (GLOBE & MAIL, 7/10).

ROUNDUP: New England Chevrolet Dealers (NECD) signed a deal making Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia the automotive group’s spokesperson. Per the deal, NECD will give away Pedroia’s ’10 Chevy Camaro in a radio sweepstakes at the end of the regular season (BOSTONHERALD.com, 7/9)....U.S. swimmer Jason Lezak is reportedly suing Nike and a swimming apparel Web site "because he claims they used his image in an ad without his permission." According to a lawsuit filed Tuesday, Lezak "does not have a deal" with either Nike or the site and "has never received any payment for the ad." Lezak is seeking "unspecified damages" (TMZ.com, 7/9).
