Renegades Pleased With Fan Support For Women-Only Promotion

Single-A New York Penn League Hudson Valley Renegades officials estimated that between 500-700 female fans filled Dutchess Stadium at the start of last night’s game against the Staten Island Yankees, and they “couldn’t have been happier, watching their women-only promotion come to fruition,” according to Sean McMann of the POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL. Renegades VP/Marketing & Operations Tyler Tumminia, who came up with the idea for the women-only promotion, said, “For a Tuesday night, I can't complain about this crowd. I'm just glad we were able to get some people who understood it to come out and be part of the actual experience.” Renegades fan Lexy Fraser said of the promotion, “It’s weird. It’s different. It’s good to see all the women.” In addition, about 100 male fans gathered outside the ballpark at a tailgate, where the Renegades provided them “numerous diversions -- from video games to large-screen television sets on which to watch the game -- in a party-like atmosphere.” Yankees Assistant GM Jean Afterman, who threw out the ceremonial first pitch, said last night’s promotion was a “celebration of women.” Afterman: “If you took all the women out of the stands, I really don't think you'd be able to support a team” (POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL, 7/8).
