Wizards Reach Deal To Broadcast Games On
WJFK-FM For At Least Next Two Seasons
In DC, Dan Steinberg cited sources as saying that the Wizards have reached a deal to broadcast their games on WJFK-FM "for at least the next two seasons." The station, which is "set to turn to a sports-talk format before the end of the month," also is in "negotiations with other local college and professional franchises." The Capitals' two-year deal with WWWT-AM parent company Bonneville Int'l expired after the '08-09 season, and the team has "yet to sign a new radio deal" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 7/6).

FREE AGENT ACQUISITION: Yahoo Sports last night announced that it has hired Boston Globe NBA writer Marc Spears. Spears said, "I'd like to thank the Boston Globe for everything they've done for me. It's a fantastic paper. I'm hoping and praying that everything in the future works out in the right direction. I'm looking forward to going to a great website" (THEBIGLEAD.com, 7/6).

TRUMP CARD: BROADCASTING & CABLE's Alex Weprin cites sources as saying that Donald Trump is in talks with Golf Channel about a "documentary special following the mogul's oft-criticized attempt to build a new golf resort in Aberdeen, Scotland." Specific details of the project are still being worked out, and other sources stressed that the deal has "not yet been finalized." The proposed show would "chronicle Trump's efforts to get the project underway, including the reaction from those in the community, many of whom still oppose the resort" (BROADCASTING & CABLE, 7/6 issue).
