Polo Ralph Lauren Will Continue As An Official Outfitter For USOC
 |
Polo Will Design Official Uniforms For '10, '12
Opening and Closing Ceremonies |
Polo Ralph Lauren will continue its partnership with the USOC as an Official Outfitter of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams for the '10 and '12 Games. The company will design the official uniforms for both the Opening and Closing Ceremony for both Olympics and Paralympics. Polo has also created a collection of village wear apparel and accessories that will be provided to the athletes on the U.S. teams (Polo Ralph Lauren). The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Rachel Dodes reports the agreement, "which was signed last month, extends one Polo made with the USOC in April 2008 to supply clothes for the Beijing Games." Cash is not included in the deal, but sources said that Polo "will pay the USOC a royalty of about 10% from the sale of any items featuring the Olympic seal." Polo has designed "zip-up snowflake sweaters, knit caps and parkas" for the Vancouver Games, with about half of the apparel featuring its polo-player logo. The Olympics collection "will be sold at department stores, online and in Ralph Lauren boutiques in the U.S. and Canada" beginning in November. Polo is "doubling the number of styles in its Olympic collection for consumers from the one it created for Beijing." The company this year is "keeping overall ad spending flat but boosting its budget for the Vancouver Games by 50% from what it spent on Beijing's." Nine athletes will be used in Polo's Olympics-related ad campaign, including skier Ted Ligety and ice dancer Tanith Belbin (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 7/2).
