Etnies CEO, NBA Kings Co-Owner Partner For '09 Maloof Money Cup
NBA Kings co-Owner Joe Maloof on Friday said that he is teaming with Etnies CEO Pierre Andre Senizergues to "bring the Maloof Money Cup -- with the largest purse in the skateboard industry -- back for a second year," according to Erika Ritchie of the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER. Maloof and Senizergues announced the pro skater lineup and the plans for the street course and vert ramp design for the event, which will be held at the Orange County Fairgrounds July 10-12. Ritchie noted 36 of the world's "best pros have been invited to compete" in the event. The course -- "built as a one-time skate course only -- will feature replicas of famous streetscapes from around the world." The event is "doubling its sponsor dollars for 2009 and expanding television broadcast reach through a deal with NBC and MTV2." Sponsors of the event include Etnies, Carl's Jr. and Monster Energy Drink. The event debuted last year and at that time was "hailed as the world's greatest skateboard event." It drew 20,000 spectators at the fairgrounds, and this year, organizers are "aiming for a sold-out crowd" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 6/26).
