IMG In Talks To Acquire All Or Part Of Gaylord Sports Management

IMG Could Soon Represent
Both Woods (l) And Mickelson |
IMG is “in talks to acquire all or part of” Gaylord Sports Management (GSM), though it is "not clear when, or if, a deal will emerge," according to Mullen & Show of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. If a deal is reached, IMG would represent both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, who is currently a GSM client. GSM was formed in ’00 as a “golf-only agency, but branched into baseball player representation in 2004 and recently launched an NFL player rep business.” The agency represents more than 100 pro athletes and sports personalities. Although it is “not clear what IMG is interested in potentially buying, sources said the Gaylord golf division, and Mickelson especially, were the primary attractions.” GSM, in addition to Mickelson, represents about 30 pro golfers, including Mark Calcavecchia, Nick Watney and Angela Stanford (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 6/22 issue).
