NBA.com Gets Record Traffic From Finals; NHL.com Sees Int'l Gains

The Lakers-Magic NBA Finals set all-time traffic records on NBA.com with more than 290 million page views, up 15% from last year's Celtics-Lakers Finals. The number of video streams at the Web site also jumped more than 75% from '08 to nearly 42 million. NBA.com topped nearly 275 million global video streams throughout the entire postseason. More than 950,000 fans on the NBA's Facebook page and 720,000 followers on the Twitter feed received updates, videos and photos directly from the league (NBA). Meanwhile, NHL.com in the month of May saw 38% more overall unique visitors (12.2 million) from the same period a year ago, with May also ranking as the third most-visited month ever for the site. Int'l traffic also set new visitor records to the site, with Canadian traffic in particular up 36% from the same period a year ago, despite the last Canada-based franchise being eliminated on May 11 (NHL).

TV: ABC's NBA Finals Games Three, Four and Five gave ABC its first weekly primetime win (June 8-14) since September '08. Meanwhile, NBC's coverage of the Penguins-Red Wings Game Seven on June 12 gave the net its top-rated Friday night in the 18-49 demo since the Beijing Olympics. Below is a historical look NBA Finals and NHL Stanley Cup Finals viewership. Combined cable/broadcast figures for the NHL prior to '03 are unavailable (THE DAILY).
