Allaster Says Replacing Scott
Would Be Natural Progression
In Toronto, Mary Ormsby profiles Sony Ericsson WTA Tour President STACEY ALLASTER, who is "considered the front-runner to replace outgoing boss" Chair & CEO LARRY SCOTT after Scott resigns June 30 to become Pac-10 Commissioner. Allaster: "I believe this would be a natural progression for my career, if you look at my career path, to be the next chairman and CEO but I very much respect the process we're going through." Blue Jays interim CEO PAUL BEESTON noted Allaster has had a "meteoric rise." Beeston: "People aren't given these opportunities unless they've actually earned them and she's obviously earned it." Ormsby notes search firm Korn Ferry was hired by the WTA Tour BOG to "size up all candidates, including Allaster," and the BOG is "expected to announce its choice this summer, with no firm date set" (TORONTO STAR, 6/17).

BOOK SHELF: In N.Y., Janet Maslin wrote LARRY TYE's biography of late Baseball HOFer SATCHEL PAIGE, "THE LIFE AND TIMES OF AN AMERICAN LEGEND," is a "discerning, empathetic and hype-free" biography that suggests Paige in his prime "might have been the most famous black man in America."
