WNBA Home Openers: Monarchs Lead All Teams With 14,824 Fans
The Monarchs' game against the Storm at Arco Arena on June 6 drew 14,824 fans, topping all WNBA home-openers in attendance this season. Last year the team drew 16,225 for its home-opener against the Silver Stars. The defending-champion Shock drew 13,915 for their home-opener against the Sparks, which was up from 13,824 for their home-opener against the now-defunct Houston Comets in '08. The Sparks, who begin this season without Rookie of the Year and MVP F Candace Parker, who is on maternity leave, drew 13,154 fans for their opener at Staples Center, slightly up from 13,142 fans for the opener against the Mercury last year. The chart below lists '09 home-opener attendance for all WNBA teams (THE DAILY).
