Orender Discusses WNBA Teams
Selling Jersey Sponsorships |
WNBA President Donna Orender said while jersey sponsorship deals, such as those recently signed by the Mercury and Sparks, are "today kind of a taboo inventory," the league is "leading a revolution." Orender: "When we sat down, we said, 'What can we do for companies?' It's challenging times. Everybody is looking for edge, looking for value-driven ROI, how can they move their business spending a reasonable amount of dollars." Orender: "Essentially, we're behind the rest of the world ... (but) we really think we're ahead of the curve here, and based on the way the phone has been ringing and companies have been expressing interest, I think this is something that's going to continue very successfully for us." Orender noted individual teams "actually are initiating relationships." Orender: "They work closely with the league so that we can have a good purview of who is talking to who so all the companies can work together in a sense" ("Money for Breakfast," Fox Business, 6/12).
