Beckham Thursday Unveils Billboard In London
For Armani's New Underwear Campaign
Armani Thursday unveiled a billboard featuring David Beckham outside of London department store Selfridges, marking the first billboard to appear in the city as part of its latest Beckham underwear campaign. Beckham was on hand for the unveiling, at which the crowd "cheered and wolf-whistled their approval." The image was shot by fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott (GUARDIAN.co.uk, 6/11).

BOOK SHELF: USA TODAY'S Bob Kimball reviews author CURT SMITH's new biography, "PULL UP A CHAIR -- THE VIN SCULLY STORY," and writes while no one can "truly capture Scully's use of English and sense of history in a book," Smith "does as well as possible by not only telling the Scully story, but also spicing the narrative with play-by-play script" (USA TODAY, 6/12)....Former NBA referee TIM DONAGHY, who will leave prison next week, is in the process of writing a "part 'tell-all' barnburner, part self-help book for gambling addicts," which may be released by November (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 6/12)....Author DARYL SMITH in July will release a biography of former Reds GM BOB HOWSAM (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 6/12)....Pro Football HOFer WARREN MOON has written a book titled, "NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM: MY JOURNEY" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 6/12).

NAMES: UFL Commissioner MICHAEL HUYGHUE and team Las Vegas coach JIM FASSEL Thursday presented a $25,000 check to the Clark County (NV) School District in an effort to save the county's "Hall of Fame" high school football game, which had been eliminated because of financial cutbacks (UFL)....Sabres Owner TOM GOLISANO Thursday officially teamed up with the Unshackle Upstate "pro-business and low-tax movement" in New York (ROCHESTER DEMOCRAT & CHRONICLE, 6/12)....Penguins co-Owner MARIO LEMIEUX has been given the National Order of Quebec, the "most prestigious honor that can be bestowed by his home province." Lemieux, along with 33 other recipients, will be honored next Wednesday at the provincial parliament (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 6/12).
