JetBlue To Unveil Plane With Real Salt Lake Logos, Colors
By Eric Fisher, Staff Writer, SportsBusiness Journal
JetBlue and MLS Real Salt Lake (RSL) will hold a ceremony in Utah today to unveil a new JetBlue Airbus A320 plane that has been painted with RSL logos and colors. The effort is part of a broad-based club sponsorship announced in March. RSL will use the branded plane to travel to its game this weekend against the L.A. Galaxy before the plane enters general use by JetBlue. The airline holds several other sports sponsorships, including ones with the Dodgers, Red Sox and Angels, but the RSL pact marks the first opportunity for JetBlue to extend logo rights to a plane, which by definition travels outside of market-defined geographies common to sports. “This type of thing isn’t the easiest thing to do within sports given how those logo rights are often governed, but there was going to be a first time for us to do this, and I’m very excited,” said JetBlue Manager of National Sponsorships Lisa Borromeo. Joining the team on the trip to L.A. will be a group of RSL fans and JetBlue employees.
