AFL Rush Owner Levin Says There's Not
Enough Time To Properly Prep For '10 Season |
AFL Chicago Rush Owner Alan Levin "isn't just skeptical the AFL will resume for the 2010 season -- he's against it," according to Lacy Banks of the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. The league has announced plans to return to the field next year after suspending the '09 season, but Levin said it is "too late to commit to a 2010 season because we don't have enough time to properly prepare." Levin: "None of the teams have a staff or an office anymore. Nobody has any players or coaches under contract, and we don't even have an interim commissioner anymore. Our problems have started with bad leadership from the commissioner on down. Now, we're just a bunch of owners still working to develop a strong economic plan to attract investors and partners." Levin added, "When you consider the time required to do your best job of assembling the right office staff, of signing the right players and coaches, selling season tickets and doing the necessary promotion and marketing the right way, we don't have enough time. So I'd rather see us commit to resuming operations for the 2011 season." AFLPA President James Baron said that he is "frustrated and angry about the way owners waited until the last minute to postpone the season and have refused to ratify a new labor contract after the union agreed to concessions such as cutting salary caps in half." Rush investor Mike Ditka said, "I would love to see the AFL come back. But if you ain't heard anything by now saying they will, I don't see them coming back because there were too many weak sisters" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 6/11).
