NBA Finals Game Three Down Slightly From Comparable '08 Game

ABC Earns 10.1 Rating For Finals
Game Three, Down 6.5% From '08
ABC earned a 10.1 overnight Nielsen rating for the Magic's 108-104 win in Game Three of the NBA Finals. The figure is down 6.5% from a 10.8 for the comparable Celtics-Lakers Game Three in '08, but is up 29.5% from a 7.8 for Spurs-Cavaliers in '07. The game earned a 24.7 in L.A. and a 29.0 in Orlando (THE DAILY). Neil Best notes on a busy sports night in the N.Y. market, Game Three earned a 9.1 locally, beating out Yankees-Red Sox (6.1), Mets-Phillies (4.5) and Red Wings-Penguins Stanley Cup Finals Game Six (2.8). The Mets and NBA ratings "grew toward the end because of the closeness of those games." Lakers-Magic also "benefited from the fact most of its game was played after the baseball games were over, but regardless, it was a resounding victory" (NEWSDAY.com, 6/10). Sunday's NBA Finals Game Two ranked No. 1 in primetime viewers for the week ending June 7 with 14.06 million viewers, while Thursday's Game One ranked No. 2 with 13.04 million viewers (THE DAILY). DAILY VARIETY's Rick Kissell notes the Finals "loomed large over everything else" in the "key demos last week." Games One and Two "gave ABC its strongest start to an NBA Finals in five years" (DAILY VARIETY, 6/10).

  • how's "not quite magic"? 10.1 is huge, no matter if it's "slightly" down from last year.
