Steelers Receive Super Bowl XLIII Rings, Team's Largest Ever

Steelers Super Bowl XLIII Ring
Contains 63 Diamonds
The Steelers yesterday received championship rings from Super Bowl XLIII in a ceremony at Heinz Field's East Club Lounge, and the ring "weighs in at 3.7 ounces and contains 63 diamonds that go 3.61 carats," marking the team's "biggest, by far," according to Ed Bouchette of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE. The rings are 14-karat gold on a black background, and the face "contains six large, brilliant-cut diamonds, one for each Super Bowl victory." There are seven other diamonds that "represent the Steelers' seven conference championships and seven others below to add up to their 14 division titles in a football design." The face includes a "red, blue and yellow stone to resemble their hypocycloid logo." On one side of each ring are "six Lombardi Trophies with the 27-23 score" of their win over the Cardinals in February, and the other side features the "ring owner's name, the Steelers helmet logo, the NFL logo and the player's number." Bouchette notes the Steelers "moved the start of the ceremony 30 minutes ahead to 6 p.m. because many of them had tickets" to Red Wings-Penguins Stanley Cup Finals Game Six at Mellon Arena (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 6/10). In Pittsburgh, John Harris writes the ring, which is "nearly twice the size" of the team's Super Bowl XL ring, can "best be described as a combination of flash and class." Steelers S Ryan Clark said LB James Farrior "helped design" the rings. Clark: "He said it was big, maybe too big. I think it's perfect. You saw a bunch of grown men act like kids. It was kind of like Christmas. You know what you're going to get, but you never know how excited you're going to be until you open that box" (Pittsburgh TRIBUNE REVIEW, 6/10).
