State Farm Has Title Sponsored LPGA
State Farm Classic Since 1993 |
State Farm has agreed to a "new, multiyear contract to remain as the ... title sponsor" of the LPGA State Farm Classic, according to Dave Kane of the Springfield STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER. Tournament Chair Dr. Erik Constance said that a deal in principle has been reached to keep the event in Springfield, Illinois, "beyond this year" as well. He added that the LPGA, the local tournament organization, State Farm and Panther Creek Country Club have all "agreed to move forward on a new agreement that will be at least two years in duration." While the dates for the '10 tournament have yet to be established, Constance said that they "will be desirable for everyone involved, including State Farm." Constance: "I want there to be no doubt in the Springfield community that State Farm is happy with everything down here and happy with the LPGA. We're ready to go forward." Kane notes State Farm, whose commitment to the tournament includes "covering the $1.7[M] purse, has served as the Classic's title sponsor since 1993" (Springfield STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER, 6/8). Golfer Angela Stanford said of the State Farm Classic, "I'm from the school of thought that you need tradition on your tour, and this tournament has a lot of tradition." Stanford added, "We need tournaments like this. I know State Farm has been great and I hope they will be in the future, and I hope we do our part and meet in the middle" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 6/8).
