Wheels & Deals: Turner, NASCAR To Use Digital App To Attract Fans

AD AGE's Jeremy Mullman reported Turner Sports and NASCAR are "looking to ratchet up engagement" among viewers by "enhancing a digital application intended to be viewed simultaneously" with TNT's six upcoming Sprint Cup broadcasts. Sprint, Coke Zero, Burger King and the U.S. Army are sponsoring Turner's RaceBuddy, NASCAR.COM’s live online companion to the TV coverage that will "offer viewers additional camera angles and reporting customized for each of the underwriting marketers." The program "will allow a sponsor such as Coke Zero, which backs a large roster of drivers including Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle and Kevin Harvick, to let viewers vote in real time on which of its drivers' in-car cameras they would like to tune in to for 50 laps at a time." The service "will also include a dedicated pit-road reporter" (ADAGE.com, 6/4).

Writer Says Patrick Keenly Aware Of Finite
Window To Capitalize On Her Resources
STAY OR LEAVE? SI.com's Brant James wrote IRL driver Danica Patrick -- "keenly aware of her finite window to capitalize on her finite resources of talent, sex appeal and corporate credibility -- wisely seems determined to see what she's worth." Her worth "might have been a lot more ... before top-level Sprint Cup teams either stocked themselves with the best of the available commodities or were forced to hunker down and wait for the financial storm to pass." Patrick earlier this year metioned Tony Stewart, who made the move from IRL to NASCAR in '99, as someone she would like to talk to about a possible move. Martin noted if Patrick "were able to bring a sponsor with her, she could perhaps not only solidify her ride," but also Ryan Newman's Stewart-Haas Racing car as well (SI.com, 6/3).

ROUNDUP: Former F1 teams March Racing Organisation and Brabham Grand Prix LTD. reportedly "have been named in official entries for budget-capped teams." But a source said that March is "'not getting too excited' due to the competition for the three vacant spots on the 2010 grid" (SPEEDTV.com, 6/3)....The Spanish Epsilon Euskadi team "has confirmed that it has submitted its entry to compete" in F1 next season (GUARDIAN.co.uk, 6/3)....IndyCar team CURB/Agajanian/Team 3G will use driver Jacques Lazier at Sunday's Bombardier Learjet 550k at Texas Motor Speedway instead of drivers Townsend Bell or Oriol Servia and in Indianapolis, Curt Cavin noted team Owner Greg Beck "spoke to the need for sponsorship," so Lazier "must have some ties to it" (INDYSTAR.com, 6/3).
