Versus Earns 2.6 Cable Rating, 2.955 Million
Viewers For Red Wings-Pens Game Three |
Versus earned a 2.6 cable rating and 2.955 million viewers for Tuesday's Red Wings-Penguins Stanley Cup Finals Game Three, marking the highest-rated and most-viewed Stanley Cup Finals game on cable since '02. The 2.6 rating also marked the network's best rating ever, ahead of a 2.1 rating for last month's Red Wings-Blackhawks Western Conference Finals Game Five and the final stage of the '05 Tour de France, which was cyclist Lance Armstrong's last victory. Versus for the 8:00-10:45pm ET time slot ranked as the most-viewed cable network, as well as the highest-rated network overall among all key male demos. The game drew a 15.1 local rating in Detroit and a 26.1 local rating in Pittsburgh (THE DAILY). In N.Y., Jeff Klein noted the viewership figure marked a 37% increase over the average rating for Versus' two game telecasts from the '08 Red Wings-Penguins Finals (NYTIMES.com, 6/3).
NO JOE VISION: In Detroit, Terry Foster reports the Red Wings "for the second straight season ... will not host Joe Vision" at Joe Louis Arena for Stanley Cup Finals Game Four. The team in the past has shown road games at the arena, typically drawing "about 15,000 fans" to the 20,066-seat facility, though sometimes the Red Wings "sold the place out." But those numbers "have dwindled as the Red Wings have become consistent -- and constant -- contenders." However, the team said that it "will show a potential series-clinching" Game Six at Joe Louis Arena (DETROIT NEWS, 6/4).
