Hot Fun In The City: MSG Rolls Out Summer Programming Block

The official start of summer may be a couple weeks away, but MSG Network is wasting no time as it is debuting its new summer programming this week. The “MSG Summer Block Party” airs at 8:00pm ET Monday-Friday and features the return of several shows as well as the premiere of a new half-hour original show entitled “Fight Night Classics.” The eight-episode series, which debuts tonight, takes a look at some of the greatest boxing matches to occur at the Garden, including fights featuring Rocky Marciano, Joe Louis and Joe Frazier, among others. MSG will bring back new seasons of the “Fan’s Most Wanted” franchise for both the Knicks and Rangers, while other returning offerings will include vintage footage from past events at the arena ranging from concerts to wrestling matches. MSG Networks Exec VP & GM Dan Ronayne said the lineup "offers something for everyone each night of the week," while continuing to serve as a platform “to draw attention and to draw viewership." The net has created a Web site at MSG.com/Summer that will include exclusive video clips as well as several interactive elements. Ronayne said he hopes the Internet presence will "connect people to the programming."

LIVE SPORTS STILL FEATURED: MSG will continue to feature its staple of live sporting events during the summer, including games for the MLS Red Bulls and WNBA Liberty, but Ronayne acknowledged the programming schedule “is a little bit different from what we do during the Knicks and Rangers season." He was quick to point out, though, the lineup "really stands on its own" and is "not about baseball, or the lack thereof," on the station.
