Calling For A Change-Up: SI.com Debuting New Design, Layout Today

SI.com Rolls Out New Design Template
SI.com today will roll out a new design template, an effort several months in the making and one designed in part to more prominently showcase its analysis and commentary writing and photography. The new look will contain more than 600 different potential design permutations within it -- up from about 25 in the current platform. But generally consistent looks will include a main photo roughly twice the size of the lead art in the old SI.com, a bluish background to replace the existing white, a consistent use of the red SI logo, enlarged advertising units and more customizable scoreboards. Content and audio feeds from Dan Patrick will also be incorporated into the set of news headlines instead of existing in a separate box in the right-hand margin, a nod to Patrick’s increasing role with SI as a source of breaking news via guests on his radio show. Despite the expansion of the primary photo and advertising units, the set of headlines will remain placed atop the page before the natural break on most computer monitors. Ketel One Vodka has signed on as the launch sponsor for the reworked site. “We felt that our home page, while still functional, could be optimized to present content in a better way,” said SI.com Managing Editor Paul Fichtenbaum. "This is about highlighting our differentiation and what makes us fundamentally us. It definitely showcases us better, while also giving the business side of the operation more flexibility and options with regard to advertising.”
