Dodgers CEO Jamie McCourt Extensively Profiled By MLB Net

McCourt Says She Will Welcome
Ramirez Back With Open Arms
MLB Network last night profiled Dodgers CEO JAMIE MCCOURT, who discussed several issues, including the team's new Women's Initiatives Network (WIN), which launched last month. McCourt said she was prompted to start WIN by a bet with Dodgers President & COO DENNIS MANNION, because McCourt "kept saying we have a huge demographic that involves diversity on every level." McCourt: "It's a true reflection of L.A. and we have about 45% women as part of our demographic. Nobody really was thinking about how to integrate women's lifestyles as part of baseball or baseball into women's lifestyles. ... You want people to think about it every single day. So he thought I was ridiculous and I said, 'Here's the bet. You will never lose money. You might not make a ton of money, but you will never lose money.' So it's really been a fun endeavor." Meanwhile, McCourt said women in professional sports bring a "different perspective." McCourt: "It's diversity of any sort. We really bring a unique voice to every issue, whether it's sports, whether it's politics, whether it's economics, and that's really the mission that we have to all be on so that we can make a difference." McCourt also noted Dodgers execs "were all disappointed" by LF Manny Ramirez' suspension for violating MLB's substance-abuse policy. McCourt: "We're not different than the fans. No one expected it, no one saw it coming. So we'll just welcome him back with open arms when he comes. The point is he was a great athlete anyway, and it's not for me to judge. I have no idea what he did or didn't do. But it's clear that the commissioner's program is working" ("MLB Network: Batting Practice," 6/1).
